WHILE IT is a bit chilly yet for most people to bare more than a single cheek to the wind and the cold, five hardy souls decided to take advantage of a fine day for a game of beach hurling – completely naked!

The four men, who were spotted by numerous walkers and photographed by one of those, threw caution to the wind as they had a puck-around on the beach at Raven Point.

The image exploded onto social media accounts on Friday afternoon with Cllr. George Lawlor in particular, being jokingly asked if there was a by-law against such action!

And plenty of fun was had by commentators who enjoyed coming up with hurling-related puns to better the previous posters, from ‘The ball is in and the game is on!’ to ‘Nippy Rackard’.

Some wondered if Liam Dunne had come up with a new training regime for the Wexford hurlers ahead of this year’s season!

The outrage was kept to a minimum as most posters were impressed with the group’s willingness to strip off in such cold weather. One poster remarked: “This is a laugh out loud moment! Fair play to them, they must be hardy lads!” while another remarked: “In touch with nature. Well done whoever ye are no harm. A bit chilly though…”

However, the question still remained as to who the group were and what had brought them, naked, to Raven Point for a game of hurling. But that too was solved as it was revealed that the group were actually members of the Irish Naturist Association taking part in a nude hiking event around Curracloe.

A video subsequently posted on the Irish Naturist Forum revealed that the five men had spent two hours hiking through Curracloe and Raven’s Point and that the temperature was a cool 13 degrees.

The group said: “We were really lucky with the weather yesterday. Please have a look at the video of our outing. Two naked hours (we had to go back then) in sunny 13 degrees, and we were spotted by many walkers who didn’t seem to care. Apparently the outing is also being commented on the Facebook page of former Mayor of Wexford George Lawlor.”

Curracloe is listed as an unofficial naturist beach on the organisation’s website.
