A man has been killed in a stabbing incident in Carlow town.

Gardaí were called to a house on Frederick Avenue in the town at aboiut 1.30pm today, after a report of a man being stabbed.

When they arrived on the scene, they discovered a 46-year-old man seriously injured. He was later pronounced dead.

A man in his 20s was arrested a short time later. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Carlow garda station.

The area has been preserved for a technical examination and the offices of the State Pathologist have been notified.
