Today we were intrigued by the news that former England player Stuart Pearce had signed for Longford.

Alas, the 53-year-old has not committed to playing with League of Ireland side Longford Town, but has instead signed with Gloucestershire based non-league outfit Longford AFC.

The team are considered to be one of the worst in the UK - so far this season they have have lost all 18 games they’ve played, scoring one goal and conceding 179.

As a player, Pearce was best known for his time at Nottingham Forest but also played for

Manchester City, Newcastle United and Coventry City. He also played for England 78 times, playing in the 1990 World Cup and at Euro 96.

"I started out in non-league football playing for Wealdstone before joining Coventry City," Pearce told the BBC.

"So I'm looking forward to working with manager Nick Dawe, and helping a group of talented young footballers achieve their dreams and, hopefully transforming both the dressing room confidence, as well as the on-the-pitch performance, and seeing how far they can go up the league."
