Pledges of accommodation, goods or services for people arriving under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP) have been received from every county in Ireland, according to the Irish Red Cross.

More than 800 pledges have been made via the online Register of Pledges to date, more than 60% of which are for accommodation.

The Irish Red Cross is in the process of verifying the suitability of accommodation pledges through its network of volunteers around the country.

The verification process began in Cork on a pilot basis before Christmas and is now being rolled out to all counties through February and March.

Pledges of goods and services, including the services of teachers and translators, will be verified separately.

"Our volunteers are meeting face to face with those who have made pledges," said secretary general of the Irish Red Cross, Liam O’Dwyer.

"They have been moved by the warm welcome they received and impressed with the generosity and humanity of those willing to share their homes.

"For anyone still wishing to help the migrants coming into the country they can do so online via the Irish Red Cross Register of Pledges."
