A new study shows Ireland spends proportionately more on health than any other EU country.

Figures from the CSO show we paid 18.4bn Euro in 2013 - or just over 12% of our gross national income.

That is significantly more than the 9.2% average spent on health by the other OECD countries.

The Sunday Business Post has claimed the numbers are much higher than previously thought and will lead to criticism that the health service isn't delivering value for money.

Almost three-quarters of the total was spent by the Government on HSE funding.
