The Irish Medical Organisation is to launch a legal action against the HSE over the non-payment of a hospital doctors' allowance.

The IMO has claims the HSE has failed to pay the Living Out Allowance to many non-consultant doctors.

The payment is worth more than €3,000 a year.

The organisation said that the allowance was part of a hospital doctors' contract that was agreed in a 2010 High Court settlement.
