A support group for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community says there was an extremely high level of demand for its services last year because of the Marriage Equality referendum.

The LGBT helpline is launching its annual report for 2015 later.

It says people contacting them found the intensity of having their lives debated very stressful.

Spokesperson Paula Fagan says it was a difficult year for many.

She said: "Well, obviously some of the negative things that were said were very difficult during the campaign.

"Also, a lot of people that contacted us went open or out about their sexuality, so they found that very intense when the entire country was talking about sexuality and same sex couples.

"So people found that very intense and a lot of people needed support."
