GAA folk pride themselves on the standard of sportsmanship in their beloved game, so this picture and story tweeted from the weekend has made many hearts swell with pride.
There was an upset in Ulster schools competition the MacRory Cup on Saturday, with St Ronan’s of Lurgan beating Newry side St Colman to book themselves a place in the semi-finals.

Naturally the captain of St Colman’s, a young man named Charlie Carr, was heartbroken but he was reminded that there was still an onus on him to be gracious in defeat.
Journalist Niall McCoy tweeted this image and an explanation of its significance.

Fair play to Charlie’s dad Ross for reminding him of his duty and to Charlie for his display of courteous, sporting behaviour.
And all credit to photographer Brendan Monaghan for capturing an image that sums up all that is good about the GAA.
