Update 3.19pm: Gardaí have confirmed that a female pedestrian aged in her late 80s died after an accident in Limerick.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Limerick University Hospital. The driver of the jeep has not sustained physical injuries.

An elderly woman has tragically died after she was knocked down in a Limerick car park this morning.

Gardaí went to the scene after receiving a report of a female pedestrian trapped under a vehicle in the Castletroy area.

The collision occurred in the car park of the Ulster Bank, Castletroy, on the main Limerick to Dublin Road, shortly after 10am.

When emergency services and Gardaí arrived they found a woman fatally injured under a 4x4 vehicle.

It is believed the jeep may have reversed into the woman as she was positioned behind it.

The vehicle involved has been covered with tarpaulin sheeting and the scene has been sealed off.

The bank has been closed until further notice.

Investigators have also called in a Garda Forensic Collision Inspector, as is normal procedure following a traffic collision, to forensically examine the vehicle and take measurements at the scene.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, emergency services cut a woman from a car which was involved in a minor road collision at Singland Cross Junction.

The woman is not believed to have been seriously injured.
