Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning across the country.

The weather forecaster is warning of rain turning to sleet and snow from the east this morning, with accumulations likely on high and low ground.

Some icy stretches can also be expected.

The alert was issued overnight and will remain in place until 11am.

Western parts in particular will have some wintry showers, becoming more widespread as the morning progresses, but fading out everywhere in the afternoon.

It will be a mostly dry afternoon for most, with some wintry sunshine, but it will feel cold with highest temperatures of just 4C to 7C.

More showers are on the way to western parts this evening. It will be very cold tonight, with temperatures falling to between 0C and -3C.

Tomorrow's forecast is for similar weather, and it will remain unsettled for the rest of the week.
