A new poll shows the public is equally divided on whether Enda Kenny or Micheál Martin should be Taoiseach.

The latest IPSOS/MRBI poll for the Irish Times was carried out last Friday and Saturday among 1,200 adults at 100 sampling points in all constituencies.

When asked which of the four main party leaders they would prefer to see as Taoiseach, 24% of those surveyed opted for both Enda Kenny, with exactly the same percentage saying they preferred Micheál Martin for Taoiseach.

Enda Kenny scored higher among the better-off, with Micheál Martin doing better among less well-off voters.

Micheál Martin has performed well in the televised debates in particular, which has helped raise his profile with voters.

Gerry Adams received 12% support followed by Joan Burton on 4%.

The margin of error is 2.8%.
