Twelve homes are being searched by detectives in Dublin investigating the murder of David Byrne.

There are reports that one of the homes raided is that of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, who returned to Dublin last week for the funeral of his brother Eddie.

No arrests have been, but detectives say the operation is ongoing.

Eddie Hutch was murdered three days after David Byrne was killed in what is believed to have been a revenge hit.

Mr Byrne, a 34-year-old father of two who was living in Crumlin, was buried on February 15 after his murder in a gangland hit that shocked the country at the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra, Dublin earlier this month.

Armed assassins dressed as gardaí targeted Mr Byrne at a boxing weigh-in.

Murder squad detectives believe his murder was retaliation for the shooting dead of Gary Hutch on the Costa del Sol last September.
