Irish actor Johnny Murphy has passed away, according to reports.
The star was best known for his role as trumpet player Joey “The Lips” Fagan in The Commitments, a role he beat Van Morrison and Rory Gallagher to.
Glen Hansard, who co-starred with Murphy in the 1991 film, was one of the first to pay tribute to him on his social media platforms.

Mr Murphy, who was in his early seventies, also had roles in Angela’s Ashes, Into the West and War of the Buttons.
Details of his death have yet to be released.
