Sen. Michael Darcy and Harry Crosbie discussing future plans for Gorey Market House.

The proposed development of a 1,500 capacity concert and performing arts centre for Gorey’s historic Market House has moved considerably closer following confirmation by An Bord Pleanala that the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) of the lands at the rear of the building has been successful and Wexford County Council is keen to complete the acquisition as speedily as possible.

Dublin businessman Harry Crosbie, who has plans to establish Vicar Street South in Gorey, along the same lines as his successful Dubin venue which attracts the leading world class acts, has renewed his interest in the plans and visited the site last week.

Mr Crosbie said his interest is as strong as ever to develop a major venue at the Market House.

If we are chosen by Wexford County Council we will build a 1,500 capacity multi-purpose venue at the Market House, in collaboration with Wexford County Council,” said Mr Crosbie, who added: “My plan is that it will be based on the successful format of Vicar Street in Dubin. All seating will be removable so that the venue can host mini-car, boat and machinery shows, as well as trade and produce markets of every kind.”

Like the famous Dublin enterprise, it will be managed by Harry Crosbie and Aiken Promotions who will run the diary and the target audience is the whole of the South-East.

It will initially operate for the summer and Christmas seasons and will present a full range of shows and attractions from international touring programmes.
