Conor McGregor was determined to go up a weight class for his next fight after becoming UFC Featherweight champion - but now it’s been announced he is going up two classes - to welterweight.

McGregor was due to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title in Las Vegas on March 5, but the Brazilian has been ruled out after suffering a broken foot in training.

The UFC scrambled to find a replacement opponent for the high-profile fight and Nate Diaz has now been confirmed.

UFC chief Dana White last night said McGregor has agreed to fight Diaz at welterweight in a non-title bout.

Diaz was reportedly reluctant to to cut his weight all the way down to the 155-pound limit in such a short time frame, so the Dubliner agreed to move up another class.

That means McGregor will fight at 170 pounds on March 5, three months after beating Jose Aldo at 145 pounds.
