Fianna Fail’s Aoife Byrne’s is being tipped by many across the county to take a seat in Wexford in Friday’s General Election. Byrne, who lives in Wexford town,

has seen her odds slashed from 33-1 to 2-1, and is regarded by many as the one to watch on Friday.

Liam Glynn, Boylesports spokesperson said: “Having laid her at 25/1 and 8/1 the demand has continued and is showing no signs of drying up at her current price of 2/1.”

A source close to the campaign added “the response that Aoife has been getting on the doorsteps and streets across the county has been phenomenal. People are delighted to see a new, fresh candidate who has real life experience behind her, and who knows first-hand the challenges the people of Wexford are facing.”

Byrne is expected to poll strongly in Wexford, New Ross and surrounding districts, and is also likely to garner the support of many across the county who feel that the time has come to change the lack of female T.D’s from Wexford. The Wexford constituency has only ever returned one woman to the Dail since the foundation of the State, and that was 24 years ago.

Byrne, originally from the Hook Peninsula, ran a business in New Ross for over 10 years and currently lives and works in Wexford town. Her father, Hugh Byrne, former T.D. and Minister of State, along with her extended family, have been canvassing hard over the past number of months, and sources within the party say that internal polls conducted indicate that Byrne could well cause one of the biggest upsets in Wexford political history this Friday.
