A young woman has been airlifted to hospital following a crash in Co Clare.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on the main Ennistymon to Lahinch road, the N67.

Fire crews from nearby Ennistymon used specialist cutting equipment to cut one of the occupants from the car.

While the driver escaped injury, fire crews worked alongside paramedics to safely remove the injured passenger from the car.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 4x4, escaped injury.

The Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance, based in Athlone, was requested to airlift the woman to hospital.

The casualty was flown to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
