Workers at St James's Hospital in Dublin have voted in favour of industrial action in protest against plans to charge for staff car parking.

The hospital is expected to begin charging around €500 per year for the facilities in the near future.

The IMPACT balloted its members, the majority of whom approved industrial action.

"IMPACT has 470 members employed at St James' Hospital in Dublin, and our members there have voted 91% in favour of taking industrial action," said spokesperson Niall Shanahan.

"This is in response to proposals by management to introduce parking charges at the hospital for staff in the region of €500."
