Voting is now underway in the general election as polling stations across the country have opened.

More than three million people have the right to vote up until 10pm tonight.

The polling stations across the country have now opened as the people elect the 32nd Dáil.

1 seat has already been filled with the automatic election of previous Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett, and today people will decide who takes the other 157 seats.

3.25 million people are entitled to vote if they are on the electoral register or supplementary and are an Irish or British citizen.

While polling cards have been issued to all voters they are NOT needed for you to cast the vote.

But you may be asked for photographic ID, so bring a passport, driving licence or ID card with you when you go to your local polling station.

The polls will close at 10pm tonight, and all those entitled to vote are urged to do so.
