As the tallies predict a result of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil Government, Fianna Fail's Director of Elections is insisting his party is not interested in forming a Coalition that would include Sinn Fein.
Outside of that possibility, Billy Kelleher has said they will be looking closely at the final results: “I think if you look at how we are performing, we will be a lot closer to Fine Gael than people would have anticipated only 24 hours ago or even this morning.
“So I think we want to keep it in the here and now looking at who will be the largest party.”
Meanwhile it is set to be a good day for the Social Democrats, if the final results follow the exit polls.
At the moment they look like they'll get just over 3% support, taking around 7 seats in total.
Party co-founder, Dublin North West TD Róisín Shorthall, looks certain to keep her seat - she has been speaking to our reporter at the RDS: “Well we’re very pleased, it’s been a very good day for us I think considering the party is only in existence for seven months.
“We have been running this campaign on an absolute shoe-string.
“We have been totally dependent on volunteers who have been so generous with their time and we are really very pleased that it looks like we have broken 3% nationally.
“Hopefully, it will work out like that when we hear the final tally.”
