DEFEATED INDEPENDENT General Election candidate in Wexford, Caroline Foxe, has told the Echo she isn’t ruling out running in the next local elections.

The Foulksmills post-mistress was eliminated on the second count having recorded 930 first preference votes.

She expressed concern that New Ross and the district will be left without a TD for the next five years and said she wouldn’t rule out running in the next local elections.

“I feel very humbled that people came out and voted for me and it’s hard to convey that,” she said.

Having built her campaign around concerns over rural post-office closures Ms. Foxe said that’s something she plans to continue.

“My fight in that regard will be ongoing because we need to save rural post-offices,” she said.

With regard to her political aspirations she said running in the local elections is something she will definitely consider: “We need more females and I definitely might consider running next time. I would not rule it out in the future and I think that fact that there is no female politician in New Ross is a crying shame.”
