NEWLY ELECTED Fianna Fail T.D., James Browne, has acknowledged that this years General Election was a difficult one for the people of New Ross but has committed himself to working on behalf of the people in the town in addition to his native Enniscorthy when he takes up his seat in Dail Eireann.

Speaking to the Echo at the count centre in Wexford he said he plans to work closely with his Fianna Fail party colleague in New Ross, Cllr. Michael Sheehan.

With regard to his own support in the Barrowside town he said he was “very happy” with the amount of votes he got.

“I was very happy with my vote in New Ross and it was a very difficult election for the people there,” he said.

“They felt they had been let down [by Fianna Fail],” he added.

“It’s been a long time since New Ross has had a TD and I am conscious of that,” he said.

He expressed his intention to hold regular clinics in the town going forward. The Enniscorthy based politician was elected on the 10th count with a total of 12,434 votes having received 735 transfers from Independent candidate, Ger Carthy.
