Counting of votes in the general election will resume later this morning in 20 of the country’s 40 constituencies.

More than half of the 158 seats are now filled in the 32nd Dáil after a number of constituencies continued counting throughout the night.

Four rechecks of votes or full recounts are to take place today but the final shape of the 32nd Dáil will not now be known until tomorrow when a recount is to take place in Wexford.

Counting was adjourned at some point overnight in 21 of the 40 constituencies.

Most will resume later this morning, and in four of them – Clare, Dublin South West, Dublin South Central and Donegal either a recheck or full recount will take place.

But in Wexford a full recount will take place on Monday morning after counting was suspended at 5:30am this morning when the Sinn Féin candidate Johnny Mythen was just 52 votes behind Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe.

18 constituencies have now completed counting while Cork East is expected to make a declaration shortly.

That leaves the state of the 91 seats won so far as follows:

Fine Gael has 27, Labour has 3, Fianna Fáil has 27 and Sinn Féin has 12.

There are 3 Social Democrats, the Greens have 1, 4 TDs from the People Before Profit Anti Austerity Alliance, 4 for the Independent Alliance and 10 other independents.
