THE FIGHT for a fair system goes on for Wexford County Councillor, Deirdre Wadding, who was eliminated from this year’s General Election on the sixth count.

The People Before Profit councillor secured 1,472 first preference votes and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her on her campaign.

When she ultimately fell at the sixth hurdle she had accumulated 1,843 votes and she told the Echo that the fight goes on.

“I think people outside of the large urban areas are still a bit wary of left-wing politics,” she said.

“There is still a possible fear of the left wing but austerity hasn’t gone away and if people think that they are very much mistaken,” she added.
