The Anti Austerity Alliance Councillor received a total of 6,774 votes, just 278 votes short of unseating Jan O'Sullivan of the Labour Party.

“Our result has clearly shaken the political elite in Limerick, and surprised the media as well,” he said.

“However we have known for months now that a political revolution was developing, and it has only just begun.

“The establishment parties are in free fall, as people look for a principled alternative that won't sell them out.

He took to the streets of Limerick this morning to thank all those who voted for him last week.

He added: “The Labour Party has been decimated nationally, and only managed to hang on in Limerick by a handful of votes.

“Their time, and the time of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael is coming to an end.

“The political elite may all huddle together for warmth, with the prospect of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael coming together to form a government to try to stop the rising alternative.

“However that would immediately be one of the most right-wing, and unpopular government in the history of the state, and would need to be met with serious people power movements."

“This political revolution must now step up a gear and finish off Irish Water, and fight for a principled, real left government.”
