A former Garda press officer has initiated High Court proceedings in an attempt to halt an investigation into alleged wrongdoing.

Superintendent David Taylor was arrested in May 2015 in connection with the alleged leaking of “very sensitive” information to the media.

It concerned the welfare of a Roma child who was one of two children taken from their families by gardaí in October 2013.

Today, his barrister asked the High Court to order the suspension of the investigation amid concerns of evidence being tampered with.

Mr Justice Seamus Noonan told him to put the Garda Commissioner and the DPP on notice and adjourned the matter for two weeks.
