A man accused of being the main recruiter for ISIS in Ireland is due back in court this morning.

The man, who cannot be identified, is fighting his deportation to the Middle East where he claims he will be tortured if he returns.

The State believes the man has been organising travel into Syria and other conflict zones for people involved with ISIS.

He has been living in Ireland since 2000 and secured residency a year later following the birth of his son.

His son returned to the Middle East in 2013 and the renewal of his father’s residency was denied.

Despite his efforts to stay, the High Court paved the way for his deportation just after Christmas.

He appealed that decision and is awaiting judgement.

His lawyers have also applied to have his case heard before the European courts amid fears he will be denied his human rights if he is sent home.

The State argues exceptions can be made where there is a threat to national security.

Today’s hearing is expected to last two days.
