Weather warnings for snow, ice and wind are in effect across the country this morning.

Snow has been reported on higher ground as a Status Yellow alert is in place until 9am this morning, for Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

A Status Yellow warning for wind is in place for the whole country up until 10am, while coastal fringes in the north, west and south have been issued with an orange warning for wind which is in effect until 8am.

Forecaster with Met Éireann Siobhan Ryan, has said Storm Jake has brought with it wintry conditions: “It is the tenth winter storm so far this season, obviously we are into March, but it is the first storm that has a real wintery element.

“Now it is going to continue to see a core of strong gale force south-westerly winds, this morning and in fact it is very stormy out there, particularly for the west and south-west, we have had gusts of up to 72 knots reported and 63 knots at Shannon airport so they are well into hurricane status.”
