Around a dozen families ordered to leave emergency accommodation in Dublin last week say they are still in limbo.

The men, women and children were given a week’s eviction notice by Dublin City Council, but say they have nowhere else to go.

They have refused to leave the building on Mountjoy Street and staged a temporary sit-in at the Council's offices two days ago.

Council officials sent them a letter last night to update their position.

The letter contained "not a lot that we didn't already know", according to Mountjoy Street resident Aisling Kenny.

"It’s just basically … we have to take what we were offered in ways of emergency accomodation," she said.

"We're eligible for the HAP [Housing Assistance Payment] scheme and that we've to be out of Mountjoy Street.

"That still leaves me in limbo… we actually thought we were getting somewhere but today, the letter was a little knockback for us."
