Commuters are urging Luas drivers to engage with the company to avoid further strike action.

A planned work stoppage for next week has been called off - however action is still on the cards for St Patrick's Day and Easter Sunday and Monday.

Transdev, the company which runs the Luas, and SIPTU which represents the workers, are due to attend talks at the WRC on Monday.

Mark Cummins of Rail Users Ireland has said daily users of the Luas do not have sympathy for the drivers: “The message would be, sit down and talk to Transdev management, they have offered some form of pay increase arrangement.

“It would be negligent of them not to sit down and to see what actually the deal is and to see what they can get.

“Commuters are not going to accept continued strike action, nor are they going to accept the excessive pay claims that Transdev staff have been looking for, they are unrealistic and they are unhelpful.”
