A man has died after he was seriously assaulted in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man in his late 50s was injured in the serious assault on Harold's Cross Road in Dublin at 4am yesterday morning.

He passed away this morning and Gardaí have arrested another man, in his early 40s, this morning in connection with the assault.

He is is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Terenure Garda Station.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses who were in the area between Harold’s Cross Bridge and Terenure between 3.30am and 4am on Saturday morning to contact them at the incident room in Terenure Garda Station on 01 6666473/74, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
