A pensioner and a teenager are due in court charged with stealing a fire engine and embarking on a drive of destruction that ended when it ploughed into several homes and cars.

The men, aged 66 and 19, are accused of breaking into Larne fire station in Co Antrim, Northern Ireland, and stealing the appliance.

The stolen engine, with its flashing lights on, careered into at least eight cars in Glenarm Road before crashing into a number of terraced homes in the early hours of Saturday.

The two accused are due before Coleraine Magistrates' Court charged with a string of offences including burglary, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to another vehicle and aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to property.

The 19-year-old is also charged with dangerous driving.
