THE FAMILY of murder victim Jason Ryan were given some final closure to the official investigations into his death when a verdict was recorded at his inquest recently.

Jason Ryan of 14 Hollyville Heights, Wexford died at Wexford General Hospital on January 25, 2012 after suffering a number of stab wounds to the abdomen and chest. A garda investigation was carried out and criminal prosecutions were subsequently taken.

Det. Garda Colm Dunne gave evidence that Mr. Ryan had died as a result of stab wounds.

County coroner, Dr. Sean Nixon said the cause of death was acute haemorrhagic shock due to internal blood loss as a result of multiple stab wounds. He said the inquest did not have a choice in the verdict, as it had been decided in the criminal court, and he ruled it as death by murder.

Speaking to the family, he expressed his sympathies and remarked that they had had a long, hard time over the past four years. Insp. Pat McDonald from the gardai echoed these sentiments.

Cllr. Fergie Kehoe, on behalf of the jury, spoke directly to Ms. Ryan saying: “Catherine I have known you all my life and this must be a nightmare for you.” He complimented the gardai for their diligence in securing a conviction in the case.
