Offaly stunned Wexford at Innovate Wexford Park yesterday afternoon with a 2-21 to 3-11 victory.

Wexford had two goals inside the opening four minutes, with Conor McDonald goaling a penalty after being fouled before Aidan Nolan made it 2-0 to 0-0.

But Offaly responded with a Paddy Murphy ninth-minute goal, and with Shane Dooley and Joe Bergin showing tremendous accuracy from all over the pitch they reeled in Wexford. A Bergin ground shot sent to the net approaching the break left his side leading 2-12 to 2-4 at the interval.

Wexford made three changes in personnel at the break but they still looked a rattled side as the Offaly dominance continued, with Dooley sending over superb pointed frees from a variety of angles, leaving his side leading 2-20 to 2-11 with ten minutes remaining.

Offaly continued to dominate the game, restricting Wexford to a second McDonald goal from a penalty, reducing the deficit to 2-20 to 3-11, but it was Shane Dooley who closed out the game with a pointed free.

To add to Wexford’s woes they had their best player, Liam Ryan, sent off on a second yellow card one minute from the end,

A packed Kerry defence and in-form goalkeeper Aidan McCabe minimised the size of the defeat but Clare still ran out 2-28 to 1-9 winners over Kerry in Ennis.

Aaron Cunningham, particularly prominent in the second-half, landed six from play and Colm Galvin and Conor McGrath hit five apiece.

Shane O’Donnell saw one effort hit the crossbar, while McCabe did well to deny a ground shot from the All-Ireland hat-trick hero.

McCabe also saved a penalty from Bobby Duggan but Clare still led by 0-15 to 0-6 at the break, with Michael O’Leary lifting the siege with a couple of points from play and John Egan hitting three frees and one from play.

Clare pulled away in the second-half, five points in succession being followed by a flicked goal from John Conlon in the 49th minute after McCabe did well to deny David Reidy with another top class save.

Duggan made amends for the earlier effort by blasting a 58th-minute penalty to the net before Kerry captain Daniel Collins saw a long range free end up in the net.
