A woman in her early seventies has died following a crash in County Louth overnight.

She was a passenger in one of two cars involved in a collision at Clonmore, Togher shortly before 11.30pm.

Her body was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda,

A woman in her early 60s, who was driving the car was seriously injured.

A man and a woman in their late 20s who were in the other vehicle were also hurt - however it is understood their injuries are non-life threating.

The road remains closed this morning for a forensic collision investigation.
