The Taoiseach is in Washington for the traditional exchange of the shamrock at the White House later today.

Enda Kenny is only spending one day in the United States in his capacity as caretaker Taoiseach and will return to Ireland for talks on forming a Government before heading to Brussels for a summit.

The Taoiseach's day will start when he meets US Vice President Joe Biden for breakfast; then it's onto the White House for a meeting with President Obama.

Among the issues to be discussed will be immigration and transatlantic trade.

Enda Kenny will then meet politicians over lunch on Capitol Hill, before returning to the White House for the traditional exchange of the shamrock ceremony and reception.

The visit concludes tonight when Enda Kenny addresses politicians, members of the American Irish community and business leaders at a reception hosted by the Irish Ambassador to the US.
