Two people are in hospital after a collision between a Garda car and another vehicle in Donegal.

The collision between the two cars happened at around 3.45am this morning at Meencargagh, Ballybofey - locally known as McGrorys Brea - a mile outside Ballybofey town.

One of the cars involved was a Garda car and the second was a black Fiat Punto.

The drivers of both cars were taken to Donegal University Hospital where their injuries are described as non life threatening.

Officers from the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission attended the scene, and the road is closed for a forensic examination.

The road is expected to reopen around lunchtime.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been on the Ballybofey to Donegal road between 3.15am and 3.45am to contact Letterkenny Garda station on 074 9167100, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
