JOE HART: Powerless to stop Marcus Rashford scoring and did well to deny Anthony Martial twice after that before being taken off on a stretcher. 7/10

GAEL CLICHY: Got involved up the pitch as City improved after the break, but could not make a telling contribution. 6

MARTIN DEMICHELIS: A nightmare outing. Beaten easily by Rashford when the teenager scored, looked fortunate not to give away a penalty for a foul on the same player and just about got away with a suicidal back-pass attempt, as well as missing a decent chance. 3

ELIAQUIM MANGALA: Certainly did far better than Demichelis - but without doing too much wrong, still failed to give a showing that suggest City can properly cope without Vincent Kompany. 6

BACARY SAGNA: No major errors at the back, but unable to have much penetration going forward. 6

FERNANDINHO: Moved from midfield to centre-back when Demichelis was substituted and immediately made a more positive impact than his predecessor, making a crucial block to keep out a Rashford effort. 6

YAYA TOURE: Came to the fore in a handful of moments, particularly after the break, but it was not really enough overall from a player who can be so influential. 6

RAHEEM STERLING: Involved in a couple of decent attacking moves early on before limping off in the 26th minute with an apparent groin problem. 5

DAVID SILVA: Similar to Toure - another big-name player who did not really deliver. 6

JESUS NAVAS: A display full of endeavour saw him frequently get into promising positions, but he was ultimately unable to make the most of them. 6

SERGIO AGUERO: Struggled to get into the game until the 66th minute, when his header came back of the post. Also sent a shot wide late on. 6

Substitutes:

FERNANDO (for Sterling, 26 mins): Allowed Toure to move further forward after being introduced early on. 6

WILLY CABALLERO (for Hart, 50 mins): Made one very good save to keep out a Martial shot. 6

WILFRIED BONY (for Demichelis, 53 mins): Unable to pose too many problems as City went in search of an equaliser. 6

MANCHESTER UNITED

DAVID DE GEA: Produced a decent save to keep out a Navas effort at 0-0 and was comfortable throughout. 7

MARCOS ROJO: Got away with an error in the first half but was otherwise steady before coming off in the second. 6

DALEY BLIND: Contained Aguero well when called upon to do so in a battle that started to get a bit feisty towards the end of the first half. 7

CHRIS SMALLING: A generally solid performance, although was perhaps lucky that a second yellow card was not added to the first he received early on. 7

MATTEO DARMIAN: Made several decent interceptions to help keep City at bay. 7

MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN: Showed some very nice touches going forward as well as being part of United's solid base. 7

MICHAEL CARRICK: Played his part in United's resilience as the hosts started to press. 6

ANTHONY MARTIAL: Always looked dangerous. Brought decent saves out of both Hart and Caballero. 8

JUAN MATA: A commendable 70-minute shift which included teeing up Rashford's goal. 7

JESSE LINGARD: Typically energetic, although not quite as prominent this time as some of his colleagues in attack. 6

MARCUS RASHFORD: The fairytale continues for the 18-year-old, who impressed onec again here. Showed great composure when he scored, might have earned a penalty and almost netted a second. 8

ANTONIO VALENCIA (for Rojo, 63 mins): Helped keep things ticking over for United as City searched for the leveller. 6

BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER (for Mata, 70 mins): Brought more solidity to midfield to help see out the victory. 6
