Independent Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae was hospitalised last night after a farm accident.

It is understood he was injured while working with cattle on the family farm.

It is reported he suffered minor injuries in the incident, which happened around 6pm yesterday evening.

It is thought he may have been kicked and attacked by the animal.

He was able to get away, but was taken to hospital to have his injuries assessed.

The Kerry deputy confirmed that he is recovering in Cork University Hospital after a "farm accident" yesterday evening.

A statement from the 49-year-old said: "Deputy Healy-Rae is being kept in Cork University Hospital for tests and observation."

It has also been confirmed by his son Jackie Junior who said "my father is recovering well at present".
