A MAJOR Garda operation is currently under way across the South East region in a bid to tackle ongoing criminal activity in the area. Intelligence led searches are currently taking place in both the Wexford and Waterford Divisions targeting criminal gangs operating in the area.

Over 80 Gardaí are said to be taking part in the operation in Wexford and Waterford and it consists of a total of 9 co-ordinated searches with the assistance of the Criminal Assets Bureau, Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, Garda Air Support and Officers from Revenue Custom and Excise.

UPDATE: Two women (both in their mid forties) have been arrested in relation to this morning’s operation and are being detained at Enniscorthy Garda Station. The searches in Wexford and Waterford resulted in what is believed to be stolen property to the value of €75,000 being recovered by Gardaí.

The two women are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
