Mattie McGrath has said he will be asking Enda Kenny for a fair share for rural Ireland in any new Government that is likely to be formed.

The Tipperary South TD is among a group of Independent deputies who will meet with the acting Taoiseach and Fine Gael today to discuss a possible coalition.

Rural Ireland, homelessness and the housing crisis are expected to be the focus of today's talks.

The 32nd Dáil met for the second time yesterday and adjourned without progress until April 6.

Mattie McGrath has said rural communities will not be forgotten by the next Government.

“We’re going looking for a fair sure of the take for rural Ireland because it hasn’t been happening,” said McGrath.

“Outside of the Red Cow is kind of a taboo subject. We say that with the whole message that Fine Gael had during their election campaign.

“‘Keep the recovery going’, what recovery?”
