President Michael D Higgins will sign a book of condolences for the victims of the Brussels attacks this morning at the Belgian embassy in Dublin.

The Irish flag will be flown at half mast today on government buildings, out of respect for the Brussels victims and following the tragedy in Buncrana.

34 people are known to have died and at least 198 were injured in the attacks at the Belgian capital's Zaventem Airport, and a subsequent explosion on a subway train at Maelbeek Metro station.

Meanwhile, five members of the one family who died after their car left the pier in Buncrana, Co Donegal are also being remembered as the Irish flag flies at half mast.

Sean Mc Grotty, his sons Mark and Evan, Mr McGrotty's partner's mother Ruth Daniels and Ms Daniels' daughter Jodie Lee, lost their lives after their car became submerged in water.

Only four-month-old Rionaghac-Ann survived the tragedy after being rescued by Donegal man Davitt Walsh.

The funerals of the family, who are from Derry, will take place on tomorrow afternoon.
