Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Sligo.

A 69-year-old man was the sole occupant of a car that went off the road at Castlegal, Cliffoney at about 3pm yesterday, and collided with a ditch.

The man's remains have been removed to Sligo University Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place.

A technical and forensic examination of the scene has been completed by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since been reopened to traffic.

Investigating gardaí at Sligo would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened on 071-9157000.
