The case of a UCC lecturer who is trying to put a stop to a round of interviews for 10 professorial positions will be back before the High Court this morning.

Dr Joan Buckley, who is the head of its Management and Marketing department, took legal action after she failed to make the shortlist.

UCC’s business school is looking to hire 10 professors.

Dr Buckley was among the 252 people who applied for the positions, but was not called for interview.

The first round of interviews is due to take place over three days at the start of next week but Dr Buckley is trying to prevent them from going ahead.

She believes the selection process used to whittle down the candidates was flawed and has described as “inexplicable” the decision not to include her in the final shortlist.

Yesterday, counsel for UCC said she would not be disadvantaged if next week’s wave of interviews took place because they do not relate to her areas of expertise.

Mr Justice Richard Humphreys used to be a lecturer in UCC, so put the case back until today to allow another judge to deal with it.
