Forget the horses, the biggest race at Aintree is to get in early and bag a good spot for the day.

Or so suggest the Racing Post, who decided racegoers heading into the course would benefit from some cheeky commentary.

"And we're off," he began, before providing in-running comment on a range of punters as they headed in.

"Normally this is reserved for horses, but apparently we have a leopard entering the race here.

"We've got the silver fox out in front."

Some ignored the reporter and some didn’t hear it, but most got a giggle from the running commentary.

And at least the Racing Post’s man was willing to take a stab at discussing the fashions of the day.

Racing pundit Luke Harvey provided one of the funniest live TV moments of the festival earlier today. When the talk turned from racing to outfits during a BBC Breakfast preview, he couldn’t get away fast enough.

The BBC said afterwards he left because he was needed to speak on another morning show - but we know a man terrified by fashion when we see one.
