Willie Mullins expects stable jockey Ruby Walsh to be back in action at Aintree on Saturday after giving up his final two rides today.

Walsh endured an afternoon to forget on Merseyside, first coming to grief when riding 1-5 favourite Vautour in the JLT Melling Chase.

After suffering another fall from Blood Cotil when tackling the Grand National fences in the Crabbie's Topham Chase, Walsh did not take up his mounts on Bellshill in Doom Bar Sefton Novices' Hurdle or Battleford in the concluding bumper.

Mullins said: "As far as I know he stood himself down and has decided to take rest of the day off. He'll be fine for tomorrow."

Walsh rides Sir Des Champs in the Crabbie's Grand National, while he is also due to get the leg up on Yorkhill in the EZ Trader Mersey Novices' Hurdle and the brilliant Douvan in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices' Chase.
