Dundalk have gone top of the Airtricity League Premier Division after their 4-0 win at Longford Town tonight.

The champions had the ideal start after Sean Gannon was fouled in the Longford penalty area with barely 10 minutes of the game gone.

Ronan Finn stepped up to convert it and Dundalk hit the woodwork twice in the next 10 minutes as they continued the pressure on the home side.

It finally counted as Brian Gartland rose highest to head from a Darren Meenan corner in the 22nd minute.

Finn scored a second goal in the 77th minute at the City Calling Stadium to put the game beyond doubt before adding his third to make it 4-0 with four minutes of the game left.

The victory sends them top on goal difference ahead of Derry City.

Bohemians travelled to the Carlisle Grounds and came out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Dan Byrne just after the half-hour mark and another from Ayman Ben Mohamed on 68 minutes.
