If Leicester win the Premier League, as pretty much all of us hope they do, they may well have Jack Rodwell to thank.

Not that the Sunderland midfielder would welcome the appreciation – it’s his horrible miss from close range which helped Leicester take all three points at the Stadium of Light today.

The England international could have made it 1-1 for the relegation strugglers when had the goal at this mercy today, only to curl it well over the crossbar.

In the end, with Sunderland stretched, the Foxes ran out 2-0 winners, thanks to a late goal from Jamie Vardy to add to his earlier strike.

They now sit 10 points clear of second-paced Tottenham, who play Manchester United at 4pm.
