Irish boxer David Oliver Joyce is now just two wins away from a place at Rio 2016 after winning his opening Lightweight bout today at the European Olympic Qualifying tournament in Turkey.

Joyce defeated his Georgian opponent on all three cards to advance to the quarter-finals.

But there was also disappointment today for the Irish squad after top seed in the Middleweight division, Michael O'Reilly suffered a shock defeat.

O'Reilly, who reportedly picked-up a shoulder injury during the opening round of his fight against his Finnish opponent, has one final chace to qualify for Rio at the world qualifying tournament in June.

Meanwhile, Ireland team captain Darren O'Neill will be in action this evening when he faces Gabriel Richards of Sweden shortly after 7pm Irish time.
