A 71 year-old woman was the target of a cowardly attack on Saturday evening when she was thrown to the ground and had her handbag stolen by a male attacker. The woman was walking along Nunnery Road on her way to mass at around 6.50 p.m. when the mugging took place.

During the course of the attack, the woman says she was approached by a male who subsequently grabbed her handbag and pulled her onto the ground before fleeing in what was described as a “beige coloured car”.

The woman, who lives locally, was said to have suffered minor injuries from the incident and was taken to a doctor for treatment. She was said to have recovered, but was understandably left traumatised and distraught following the despicable attack.

Enniscorthy Gardaí are currently investigating the matter and are appealing for anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious between 6.30 and 7 p.m. at Nunnery Road or Convent Road to come forward to them at Enniscorthy Garda Station or call them on 053 9242580.
